Stomock

Critical Acclaim

Stomock straddles the fine line between genius and the abyss.
Dzhonius, 2005
As welcome as a Porto-John at a keg party and as difficult to locate as a tampon at a Poison concert, this long-delayed solo effort by Washington, D.C. folk mama's boy Danni C. has finally been forced out, dispelling the rumors of his untimely death in 1968. Presented on Time After Tim are previously unreleased tracks, including "Way Beyond The Bowel," "Penny To My Penis," and, unfortunately, many more. (Review of "Time After Tim")Following in the footsteps of Bob Dylan, who was actually stuck inside of Mobile, Stömöck became a powerful sociopolitical voice in Memphis's vibrant digestive scene before ending his own life in 1977 (sorry, that was Elvis). Captured here are the raw beginnings of that forgettable sound, made immortal for a minute or two in songs like "The Color of Pepto Bismol" and "Suburban Ghetto Grease." (Review of "The Early Years: The Complete Memphis Sessions")Southern swamp boogie blues rock is this group's latest pathetic attempt to reach yet another adolescent market. Calling themselves Dixie Stömöck, this "offering" features heavy helpings of "down home" out-of-tune guitar and preprogrammed rockabilly backbeats that turn up like cowpies in a graveyard. Tracks like "Overturn the Outhouse Mama" overwork the thick-as-molasses roots sound of an old Johnny Winter LP. Put on your feedcap or sheet, & get ready to kick shit. (Review of Dixie Stömöck's "Share a Stall With Shorty")

If you would stop making fun of yourself and the world you might actually make some good music.
